Timeshare: Pros and Cons of Timeshares

Everything in life has pros and cons. While pros may be important to some and to some cons. It depends on how you evaluate the benefits of buying a timeshare with your lifestyle and financial condition. For some it might be a miniscule portion of their wealth but for some it can be hard earned savings of their life. In either case, a smart person will always look into pros and cons before investing his/her money.

ou evaluate the benefits of buying a timeshare with your lifestyle and financial condition. For some it might be a miniscule portion of their wealth but for some it can be hard earned savings of their life. In either case, a smart person will always look into pros and cons before investing his/her money.

Let us discuss the pros first. To begin with, timeshare properties are more economical compared to buying a piece of real estate property for life and only using it once a year. Compare this you buying a property for lifetime for $200,000 with timeshare which may be only $10,000 plus annual maintenance cost of $500 for the life. If we assume the lifetime period of 30 years the calculation will be as follows:

$10,000+30 years x 500 = $25,000 for the lifetime

Compare it with buying a real estate property for lifetime you will save $175,000. Isn't that a lot of money? Is it wise to invest that much extra money for once a year use?

Let us compare this with the cost of Hotel. Suppose if you spend $1,200 every year on a hotel, let us consider the cost for 30 years:

$1,200 x 30 years = $36,000 which is still more than $25,000 you pay for timeshare for the lifetime.

Apart from saving money you get the comfort of your home. In a hotel you might get only a suite. But a typical timeshare condo has two or three bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room and even a laundry room. Also timeshare units are usually fully furnished. Most of the timeshare properties have an indoor or outdoor pool also these days. In addition to that you also get resort facilities. What more somebody might want when they get all these facilities and comfort of home?

If you have a timeshare you don't have to worry about the upkeep and maintenance of the condo. It is taken care of by the developer. Now compare this with buying a real estate property for the life, you have to do all the maintenance.

Not to forget, if you or your spouse is a person who takes vacation lightly, this is for you. If you have a timeshare, you definitely make it a point to go for a vacation at least once a year. You are also saved from the hassles of planning a vacation every year.

Most of the timeshare companies are associated with other timeshare companies. This allows the exchange of timeshare. This is one of the many reasons why people prefer timeshare.

Now talking about the Cons of timeshare, timeshares has become an avenue for many scammers and frauds. The timeshare industry has been plagued with variety of scam and fraud related problems. People are invited to attend a ninety minute presentation completely free and then they are subjected to the techniques of pressurized buying which is unethical in any sense. Do not fall prey to these tricks. Always read the documents carefully specially the fine prints before signing any agreements. Research the timeshare company well and know their reputation.

By paying a huge upfront fee your money is tied up for a long time which means you are losing money's worth in addition to paying interest if you have taken a loan for the rest of the amount. Also you have to pay regular maintenance cost.

One of the major cons is the appreciation. The timeshares don't appreciate much. They may be stagnant or even depreciate with time. They are also difficult to resale compared to a real estate property.

And last but not the least; timeshares may not be flexible enough for you to use it every year at a specific time. Although some companies offer flexible timeshares but it is only on first come first serve basis many other timeshare owners might also be planning to do that.

The Best Backpacking Food

Which backpacking food is best is just an opinion, of course, but there are reasons why some foods are better than others.

Maybe your favorite backpacking food is a freeze-dried turkey dinner. There really is no "best" backpacking food. There are reasons to bring certain foods, though. Here are ten foods, and the reasons you might want to consider them.

1. Nuts. This is one of the most calorie-packed foods you can take. That means less weight to carry. With lots of protein and other nutritonal benefits, nut
are one of the best backpacking foods.

2. Olive oil. Add a little to your soups or dip bread in it. The best of the oils health-wise, you can eat it before sleeping, to stay warm, because fats generate heat when digested.

3. Trail mixes. Any mix with raisins and nuts is great for backpacking. Vitamins, minerals, protein, and the best reason - convenience.

4. Corn products. Tortilla chips or corn nuts are convenient, and they don't seem to cause the tiredness that potato chips and other simple carbohydrates can cause.

5. Ramen noodles. When you need a hot meal fast, there isn't much that's better.

6. Instant coffee. A necessity for caffeine addicts, and it's good to have a stimulant available for emergencies.

7. Wild edible berries. Learn to identify a few, and you'll have a nutricious excuse for a break along the trail.

8. Instant sports drinks. Pour a little in your water bottle and shake. Replacing electrolytes doesn't get more convenient.

9. Instant refried beans. When you want sustained energy, eat beans.

10. Your favorites. Having your favorite foods can help salvage a rainy backpacking trip spent in the tent.

Always consider the nature of the trip when you choose your backpacking food. Hot meals are much more important in cold climates, and convenience is king, if you want to make miles. A bottle of rum might even be appropriate, if it's a trip wih friends.

Costa Rican Cruises - Rare But Remarkable

If you're planning a vacation to Costa Rica, why not bring along your hotel and restaurant? The most delightful way to experience Costa Rica's marvelous beaches and coastal rainforests is from a cruise ship, and when you treat yourself to a Costa Rican cruise, getting there will be a big part of the fun!

Coata Rican cruises range from seven-or-eight night budget trips with a single Costa Rican port-of-call at Puerto Caldera on the Pacific side of Costa Rica, Seabourn's to four-week affairs which begin at Puerto Caldera and
end their way along the Central American Coast, stopping at Puerto Quepos and Puerto Moins, before touring the Caribbean and ending at Fort Lauderdale.

These Costa Rican Cruises traverse the Panama Canal to get from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea, but before they get underway allow their passengers a day at Puerto Caldera to enjoy the sights of San Jose. One of the most popular attractions is the National Theater at the Plaza Del Culturas. Modeled after the Paris Opera House, the National Theater houses magnificent Italian paintings, sculptures, and frescoes.

Coat Rican cruise passengers who want a glimpse of the country's wild side before heading for the Panama canal can take an excursion to Poas Volcano National park during their day in Puerto Caldera (Caldera referring to the volcanic crater). Some Poas tours also include side trips to the Doka Coffee Estate and the village of Sarchi, the heart of Costa Rica's artisan community.

At Sarchi you can shop for hand-carved wooden figures and elaborate canes, hand-woven wall tapestries, leather goods, and toys. You can also purchase charming miniature replicas of Sarchi's famous hand-painted wooden carts to use as planters or decorative accents. Or you can spend your off shore day river rafting on the Corobici River, gliding along through the heart of the Costa Rican jungle and glimpsing some of the hundreds of bird species which make Costa Rica a birdwatcher's Paradise.

Windstar is one of the two cruise lines which cruises to Costa Rica's Golfo Dulce, where you'll find Central America's largest rainforest and one of the few rain forests on Earth which slopes directly down to meet the ocean. Declared a national treasure by the Costa Rican government, Golfo Dulce such a remarkably diverse ecosystem that you can actually identify 100 different species of trees growing on a single acre!

During your stop at Golfo Dulce you can explore the tiny town of Golfito, established in the 1930s as a banana port, and arrange an excursion to the Corcovado national Park and the remarkable black sand beach at Zancudo.

Even Windstar and Seabourne offer only a few Costa Rican cruises each year, and they aren't chape. Even when you arrange thses cruises through online discount cruise booking services at 50% discounts, you can expect to pay a minimum of $7500 for a four-week cruise. Ready, Set, Go! Travel Packing Tips

Before you head off on your dream vacation, here is the big question: how and what should you pack? It is possible to take everything needed for a successful vacation. Learn how.

The minutes pass so slowly, time drags by and suddenly, it's here. The dream vacation is about to begin. Now for the big questions: how and what to pack. This is not a trick question and while it seems insurmountable at first, it is possible to take everything needed for a successful vacation.

Do you need a packing list?First the bad news. You
ould be kidding yourself if you think there is a "universally usable" packing list. It does not exist, and cannot be created! The whole premise of a universal packing list is unworkable. If you try to make it useful for everyone, it becomes useless for anyone, because what's "essential" for one person going to one place is "useless" to someone else going elsewhere.

Second, the good news. You can easily make your own personal packing list that accurately addresses your specific needs based on your vacation destination. For any trip of more than a day, it's very helpful to make a packing list.

Organization is the number one tip in packing for an exciting vacation. In the first stage, an organized packing list will include every item that is used on a daily basis. For women that includes curling irons, blow dryers, make-up, toiletries, etc. It is best if the woman evaluates her morning routine the day before departure, to insure that each item is accounted for; she should then leave everything grouped in one area.

This "staging area" allows for her to evaluate and insure that all necessary items are accounted for; this group of items will be the last things packed before departure, as she will use them when getting ready to leave. It is only after she has completely prepared for the trip that all morning and daily essentials are packed. Utilizing this packing tip, she can be sure to prevent last minute panic attacks. Men should prepare their items in a similar fashion.

A Successful Vacation is Planning, Preparation & Packing TipsThere are many ideas and suggestions for packing tips in travel brochures, travel books and on the Internet. However, it is very simple to prepare for a vacation as long as the traveler allows time to organize. Initially, it is best to divide each day of the vacation into the various activities for each day; morning, afternoon and evening. In this way, outfits can be matched to coordinate with the time of day and planned activity or excursion. By placing each outfit on the bed with matching jewelry, shoes, bags, etc.

It is easy to insure that all necessary items of clothing and accessories are in order. Once each outfit is completely laid out, count to insure that the number of outfits match the direct number of occasions, activities and events that are planned for the vacation. Once all outfits are prepared and final decisions are made, you will separate the outfits, shoes and accessories and pack in an order to accommodate the most items with the least amount of space. A tip for packing jewelry is to place each item into a travel jewelry case or travel bag. It is safest to keep your jewelry in your carry-on luggage. After the jewelry is safely secured in your carry-on luggage, place your shoes in the outside compartment of your suitcase or in a plastic bag inside your suitcase.

This will eliminate your clothing smelling like your shoes upon your arrival. Another important travel packing tip is to take each clothing item one by one and roll into a shape similar to a jellyroll cake. By rolling your clothing, one item at a time, you eliminate wrinkles and will be able to pack many more items in a small space. The easier you make the preparation, the more prepared you are when you arrive at your destination.
