Any Color as Long as it is Green: St. Patrick’s Day Events

Although in Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is a holy day and not a day for vast celebrating, in the United States, this is one of the biggest party days of the year. This is especially true in cities such as Boston, New York and Chicago, all of which have a huge Irish American heritage.

Although in Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is a holy day and not a day for vast celebrating, in the United States, this is one of the biggest party days of the year. This is especially true in cities such as Boston, New York and Chicago, all of which
have a huge Irish American heritage. Most of the St. Patrick's Day events include parades and parties. Most of the parades are attended by local politicians who often state that this is a day when everyone is Irish.

    Boston St. Patrick's Day Events

Boston is one of the cities where there are the most St. Patrick's Day events such as parties in bars and a large parade. The Boston Commons hosts Irish Dancers in the park as well as Irish foods and music during this day, no matter what the weather. There is the large St. Patrick's Day parade through the heart of the city that is attended by dignitaries from Boston as well as Massachusetts.

Other St. Patrick's Day events that take place in Boston include parties in local pubs and bars. Green beer is a substance that is sold by the mug on this day. The beer is tinted green with food coloring. Corned beef and cabbage is made on this day in pubs as Irish fare is served to the masses.

New York St. Patrick's Day Events

Broadway comes alive for St. Patrick's Day as the parade takes place throughout the city and is second only to the Macy Thanksgiving Day parade. Politicians make it their business to march in the St. Patrick's Day parade that ends up in Central Park each year. Central Park also hosts Irish dance and music throughout the park during the week leading up to St. Patrick's Day.

Not all of the parades take place in Manhattan. There is also a Brooklyn St. Patrick's Day parade that takes place in this borough the week before St. Patrick's Day. This parade, although not as much attended by as many politicians and dignitaries, is a fun St. Patrick's Day event for New York Irish Americans.

    Chicago St. Patrick's Day Events

Chicago has a large Irish American population and actually has two official St. Patrick's Day events - the two parades that feature floats and politicians from the state and city. The official St. Patrick's Day parade moves down LaSalle Street on St. Patrick's Day and is attended by the mayor as well as any visiting dignitaries. It winds up at Daley Plaza.

The unofficial St. Patrick's Day parade is considered to be one of the high St. Patrick's Day events for the city and includes the Southside Irish Parade that moves down Western Avenue, an area that was once exclusively Irish American. This parade even draws more of a crowd than the official parade and is considered to be the prime St. Patrick's Day events of the city. Most of the politicians that march in the downtown parade also put in an appearance at the South Side Irish parade.

Throughout the United States, St. Patrick's Day events consist of parades, dances, foods and green beer. In Chicago , the Chicago River is turned a shade of green with food coloring to honor this day.

    Boosting Your Accommodation Rental Bookings

If you have a holiday home that you are trying to rent out as a business then you need to get serious about how you are going to market the property in order to maximise your bookings. Find out a few simple ways that will maximize bookings and keep people coming back time and time again.

When you are part of the vacation rentals by owner market, a key goal is to have a high occupancy rate for your holiday accommodation. After all, you purchased the property to make a profit and empty properties mean empty pockets. Fortunatel
, there are many simple things you can do to boost your average occupancy rates.

At the top of your priorities should be making your property look inviting and attractive to potential renters. A major barrier for many is that the vacation rentals by owner market is perceived to be complicated. It can be hard to know what the place will actually look like, inconvenient to wait for owners to respond to inquiries, and insulting to hit a wall of silence after your stay. To overcome these barriers to full occupancy, here are a few things you can do now to boost your future bookings.

Make the place look good: You can't judge a book by its cover, but holiday accommodation hunters frequently judge a rental by its photos. Look critically at the photos you are using to promote your rental and ask yourself:

    * When were these photos taken? A common listing error is using date stamped photos that are several years old to advertise the property. This sends off alarm bells to many potential renters who may think the property is now run down or not cared for. Ensure you use up to date photos that show an accurate portrayal of your property.

    * What do these photos say about my property? Many of the vacation rentals by owner listings use low quality photographs that don't show the whole home. This communicates a lack of care, low pride of place, and indifference to potential customers. Set your property apart by using clear, high resolution photographs that flatter the big three: Bathroom, Bedroom, and View. Listings that avoid showing these key areas of a property may suggest there is something you don't want them to see. One the other hand, crisp and professional photography will grab attention and convert into more bookings.

Respond promptly to inquiries: Reply promptly to each and every inquiry you receive. Promptly does not mean you reply back within a weekpromptly in America is 24 - 48 hours, tops. Most clients in the vacation rentals by owner market are going to be contacting multiple owners when hunting for holiday accommodation arrangements. They will be comparing response times and are more likely to book with providers who respond promptly to inquiries.

Follow up with thank you notes and encourage repeat business. The vacation rentals by owner market is competitive, and service is as much of a differentiator as price and location. Complete the positive experience for your clients by following up with them. Thank them for their stay and ensure they were happy with your property.

The thank you note is also a great opportunity for you to encourage repeat visits. You can offer repeat booking discounts, or simply thank clients for their custom. Expressing appreciation to clients is rare in the modern age , and this rarity will give your clients a positive lasting impression and something to tell their friends about as they talk about their trip. The thank you will also make clients more likely to consider your property when making future holiday accommodation arrangements.

Holiday in Rome: the dream to live and breathe the history

Rome is a wonderful city, famous in the world for its monuments its fine cuisine and its traditions.

Rome, capital of Italy, is one of Italy's most beautiful cities, full with wonderful, unique monuments. Rome is a city to visit at your leisure not to miss every single beauty of the city.

In this city there are really several monuments, Rome is really unique in its genre. We start from the Imperial Forum and the Roman Forum. Going on we arrive at the Saints Cosma and Damiano Basilica, the Church of Saint Roman
rances, and in the end one of the symbol of Rome, the Coliseum. They are all easy reachable from the lucky tourists that can rent a flat in the centre of Rome. In ancient times called "Amphitheatre Flavio", once it was the perfect location for shows and fights. Other roman beauties are the Doria Pamphily Palace, located on one of the capital most important road: Via del Corso. In the neighbourhood there is also Piazza di Spagna and the Steps of the Trinity of the Mounts. Worth to see is also Via Condotti, where the main protagonist is shopping, then Borghese Palace, the Borsa Palace and the headquarters of the government with Montecitorio Palace and the house of Deputies.

Now we move to the Campidoglio (place of the Capitol Hill) where we can visit the New Palace, the Conservators Palace and the Senators Palace. Absolutely not to miss is the Victorian Complex that holds the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland) and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. An obligated visit is also the one along the Tiber  and then towards the other beauties: the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, Navona Square, Piazza di Spagna, Saint Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Palaces, the Capitoline Museums that collect a lot of paints from the 14th to the 18th century. Feasts and events organized by the various owners of villas and apartments in Rome are really numerous.

We just point out the ones we consider the most important. In January it is celebrated the "Benediction of animals" in the Church of Saint Eusebio. Today just family pets such as cats and dogs are blessed but in ancient times the protagonists were donkeys and horses. In March there is the "Benediction of the Cars". This typical roman tradition goes back to the thirties. In May we point out the event called "Shavuot", one of the main Jewish celebrations. Also in May and always until the day of the Ascension, another tradition is the "Visit to the seven churches", of which four major basilicas. The seven churches where roman people go during this occasion  are the following: the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, San Lorenzo outside the walls, Saint Paul Outside the Walls, San Sebastiano outside the walls, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, the basilica of San Giovanni in Lateran and of St. Peter in Vatican. Another noteworthy event, that every year attracts a lot of people is New Year's Eve in Rome, but there are many other feast, initiatives and events around the city. It is impossible to point them all out. I summed up just a few of Rome's beauties and events.

To visit Rome one day is not enough, and also the rush, so if you can it is always better to book for a dozens of days in one of the many Piazza Navona apartments. To this aim, it is way much better to plan to stay in Rome for a week and organize to see a few monuments each day, with calm and tranquillity. To stay for the night you will be really spoilt for choice: luxury hotels, cheap accommodations, bed and breakfast , with prices to suit every budget. On the web you can surely find what is more suitable for you.

    Plan a Romantic Beach Escape

Romance is alive and well even during stressful economic times. And maybe even more so. During these difficult times we should focus even more on those we love and make sure we express our love often. A romantic beach escape doesn't have to be expensive.

Is there anything more romantic than a moonlit walk, hand-in-hand with that special someone, along a beach? There could be, with just a little planning and some help from the friendly folks who call the Alabama Gulf Coast home.

Whether you are coming for a weekend or
n extended stay, someone is available to help you prepare a surprise, a retreat or an adventure for the one you love.

No matter what your paramour is passionate about, there's a way to experience it in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. Love the weightless feeling of flight? Then take the one who leaves you breathless on a breath-taking trip aloft in a hot-air balloon. You will soar above the beaches and be able to view the blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico for miles.

While aloft, you will be able to view the many species of fish that share the warm Gulf waters. But if the mate who makes your heart race prefers the water to the sky, take him or her on a dolphin cruise or a sunset boat excursion instead. Many organizers can help add just the right touch to an evening by providing or making arrangements for a picnic basket with everything from snacks to a full meal, champagne and delectable dessert.

The key to the perfect romantic outing is, of course, who you are with, not where you go. So instead of heading out, consider a date-night, movie-night or massage-for-two package. These are tailored to fit individual tastes and usually include dinner at one of the area's stellar restaurants. Baskets of goodies can be added, too.

There are lots of reasons to head to Orange Beach and Gulf Shores for romantic beach getaways. Valentine's Day, honeymoons, second honeymoons, anniversaries or engagements all seem more romantic with warm Gulf breezes and sugar-white sands as a back-drop.

But don't overlook the opportunity for a vacation-within-a-vacation. Plan a romantic beach escape -- even if it's just one evening during a family vacation.

Start, of course, by securing child care, then take a cue from the professionals. Pick out a favorite restaurant and see if reservations are needed. Visit local shops to stock a picnic basket with desserts, drinks and supplies. Those who enjoy wine will want to check out local shops that carry selections from area vineyards, as the South is becoming recognized more for excellent boutique wines. Cheeses, crackers and chocolates make excellent partners. A couple of blankets added make this romance-on-the-go kit complete.

It's hard to deny the sweep-you-off-your-feet magic of the wind and waves, so if your romantic trip takes a turn, there are excellent resources along the Alabama Gulf Coast for the marriage-minded. Local jewelers, florists, bakers, dressmakers and other wedding professionals always are available for those who want to turn "wows" to vows. Photographers and videographers can help you take home "forever reminders" of your special day and special stay.

Whether you want to stoke the fires of a long-burning romance or ignite a new passion, there's no better place to do it than the Alabama Gulf Coast. Help is just a few keystrokes away , too. Visit www.thebeachiscalling.org for links to vacation packages and other travel tools.

What To Do When You Start On Your Vacation

A timeshare can be easily defined as a self catering option to the rented properties.

Like any American, traveling occasionally is just what I love doing and I bet you share the same stuff with me. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. When we think of vacation, we think of the things we are getting away from such as a job and all the stress but we have to remember that no matter where we go in life, there's always going to be difficulties. Today, I'm going to give you a few safety points so that you can be as
ured that you're safe on your journey.

Never put your postal address on your baggage: Like myself, I'm sure you're going to be traveling with baggage. Simply put your name and phone number on the case tag. This will assure you that your luggage will be given back if you happen to misplace it for that person who wants to return it will know how to find you.

The reason why putting your full address on the tag is quite risky, is because the thief will somehow find his way to your home thinking that there are better things in there once he was able to get a hold of precious things found in your luggage. The safe way to do it is to put only your name, first and surname of course.

Keep your luggage clear of essential documents. Your case should only contain things you can afford to lose like clothing. Your valuables such as charge cards, passports, and other significant documents should never be kept in your baggage. As mentioned earlier, once somebody gets hold of this, he can have the full information about you.

Stop showing off: Some people love to display their wealth in public, but in real life, probably are neck-deep in debts. Seeing you with some luxurious jewelry, a crook may tend to follow you anywhere and will eventually lead you to a place wherein you’ll be caught in a predicament that you never wished to be in. In the sense of traveling, you are just one of the travelers roaming at the airport and so no one would really care about your visual aspect thus you don’t have to be flamboyant. Think of it: do you really care to know more about somebody just for the way they dress?

When you are about to start on your vacation, clean up the contents of your wallet and throw away all old and unnecessary slips of papers. Travel experts recommend that it is unsafe to carry multiple credit cards or other papers, and it is best that you leave them at home in a safe and secure place. In any case, one credit card is just more than enough. Make a note of the number that you need to contact in case the credit card you carry gets stolen so that you can call immediately to cancel out any transaction.

There are so many hints I can list when it comes to traveling and safety so it's up to you to use your best judgment. Being not to flashy and avoiding the flaunting of valuable or costly things are just some of the most important things to consider. If you can follow the tip that is to carry only the things that you can afford to lose , then no doubt that you will be one of the safest travelers ever known.

    How Can You Travel Safely?

Our Hilton Head vacation was the most incredible vacation we have ever been on. I just can not stop talking about it to all of my friends and family.

Often things that would not go wrong in your everyday life will, given the opportunity, when you are traveling so it is handy to know a few things to lessen the chance of this happening. The trouble is when this happens it leaves you with bad memories of what should have been a happy vacation. In the worst case scenarios, passports, credit cards and cash may have to be replace
. When visiting a new country, traveling safely is really a matter of common sense because you will not be aware of local traditions or problems that are faced by travelers.

If you ever get that distinct feeling that something is wrong, which often happens on vacation, that is your instinct giving you a warning that you should take notice of. A big mistake made by many tourists is they take everything of value with them which makes it very easy for thieves and pickpockets to steal their whole identity in one go. You know that when you go out for the day or evening there are only certain things you need, so just take those and leave the rest behind in the safe or security deposit box. One tip that has saved many travelers hassle is placing money in various locations so it makes it harder for thieves and pickpockets to get it all at once.

Unfortunately, the convenience of having two credit cards on the same account in your own country can be a problem in a foreign land so another travel safely tip is to use two completely separate accounts; this provides a back-up should one be lost or stolen. Some of the easiest possessions to steal are bags and cameras owing to the way people carry them without even recognizing that they are an easy target for thieves; ensure the straps are over the head and across the chest if you want to hold on to them. When you walk out make sure you are on the sidewalk as motorbikes and cars can't drive here and if you have your bag or camera dangling off the shoulder furthest from the road it won't be so easy to take. The reason most people fall for these tricks is because we are more relaxed on vacation and the people that carry out these crimes are very good at it.

We can become complacent believing it will not happen or we are cleverer than them but this is how they make their living and in many cases the way that they feed their family every day. Carrying a small backpack can be a good idea as it can be secured with a small padlock which although will not deter the determined thief , will certainly slow down and prevent the majority from trying their luck.

Portobello - The Panama City Where Beauty and History Meet

Portobello is a sleepy historical town on the Caribbean coast of Panama. Thsi area is receiving interest from tourists and investors alike due to the natural beauty as well as the new highway from Panama City

If you are seeking a Panama location for your investment opportunities, the beautiful Caribbean real estate near the Panamanian city of Portobello has exactly what you want. With its sparkling waters and spectacular history, the Panama location along the coast of the country is like the crown of the country... and if this
region truly is the crown, then Portobello is the crown jewel of Panamanian cities. This town has much to offer those who are looking to find their beachfront investment opportunity. Situated close to both Colon and Panama City, Portobello is the launching point of Caribbean coast activity. The city is less than two hours away from Panama City and it is easily accessible by car. This Panama location is also in close proximity to several marina projects that are under construction for investment opportunities along this beautiful coastline. The amazing history of Portobello Portobello is one of the most historically significant locations along Panama's Caribbean coast. Pirates such as the famous Henry Morgan made frequent trips to the city during the time Spain used it as a shipping center for sending treasure from South American back to the homeland. A number of forts were built to protect this natural harbor and the remains of the forts of Santiago and San Geronimo still exist and serve as interesting attractions for Panama tours. Other incredible ruins exist as well. The ruins of the "Customs House", which dates back to 1630, are a typical stop for Panama tourism trips. In addition to the Customs House, the remains of the church of La Merced still exist for visitors to enjoy. The last building to be constructed by the Spaniards at this Panamanian location, the church of San Felipe, was inaugurated in 1814 and still stands today. The Black Christ of Portobello The church of San Felipe is home to the city's most valued and best guarded relic, a beautifully carved statue of Jesus of Nazareth. Because of the rich, dark wood that was used for the statue, it was called the "Black Christ". Every year on October 21st, the city of Portobello holds a grand celebration of its history and of its valuable statue. Hundreds of people come from around the country come to this Caribbean real estate for a day of festivities that culminates when the statue is brought from the church on a platform and carried by 80 men through the streets of the city in a candlelight vigil until it resumes its location in the church. Investment opportunities in Portobello For a number of reasons, the city is an excellent Panamanian location for investment opportunities. As is the case with other real estate in various Panama cities, this Caribbean property is an excellent value. This area is not over-developed and the property values are still very good. In addition, some of the other benefits of the Panamanian investment opportunities in Portobello are: 1. Caribbean Harbors - Many who are avid sailors prefer the Caribbean coast as the home for their yachts and other vessels. Because of this, several new marina projects are underway in this area to accommodate demand for this type of Caribbean investment opportunity. 2. Natural Beauty - It is well known that the Caribbean coast of Panama is incredibly beautiful. Caribbean property along the coast of Panama is home to some excellent snorkeling, fishing and surfing. 3. Proximity to Panama City - This is actually a bi-direction benefit. For those in Portobello, being close to Panama City offers all of the attractions and features that can be found there. For the residents of Panama City, The city offers the closest access to Caribbean real estate and its crystal-blue waters. If you seek Panama location with beautiful Caribbean real estate, Portobello has exactly what you want. The history of this amazing area, coupled with the clear-blue waters , make this Panamanian city a very desirable commodity. I want to back track a bit to Panama province for those of you fortunate enough to join us for the drive the scenery from Portabello is spectacular. The winding roadway through the hilly countryside is truely breathtaking. You will lay witness to some of the most economical real estate in all of Panama. I can close my eyes and picture my Bavarian Castle nestled in amongst the hills and lush glades that offer one of the most heart stopping views of the Caribbean lays before me.

Budget Vacations - Save with Self-Catering

Vacations can quickly get very expensive, especially when your forced to dine out for every meal. You can soon find that feeding a family of hungry mouths when dining out can be bad for your wallet as well as your wasteline! A great way to get round this problem and save money is to book self-catering accommodation, sometimes known as self-contained accommodation. Find out how to save money and get the most from your next vacation.

You don't need anyone to tell you that vacations can be expensive. The costs of travel, accommmo
ation, dining out and activities rapidly adds up. However, if you are smart about saving money on food and accommodation you will have more left over to do the activities and attractions you really want to enjoy.

For the purposes of this article, we shall use a Florida vacation, which is one of the most favorite vacation destinations in the United States. The good thing about Florida is the wealth of things to do; from amusement parks to the Everglades, a vast variety of interesting adventures await you. The wonderful thing is that a lot of the attractions in Florida are free or available at a nominal cost. A day at the beach will not cost a thing and visiting the Everglades won't cost very much at all. Since you are saving a lot of money on holiday accommodation and food the cost of entry to attractions won't seem as bad.

The best part about Florida for this example is the number of vacation rental properties available. Although they offer far more space and privacy than a hotel, many holiday houses and condos are actually cheaper for stays of more than a few nights. Many are available for only $99 a night! What is spectacular about this price is the fact that you get a whole house for less than the cost of a hotel room. In addition to more room, you will have more privacy. One great part of renting vacation properties is that many of them have a pool or access to a pool; often they have hot tubs as well. Why pay more money for a single shared hotel room when you can have a whole house with all the space and comforts for the same price or less. Holiday accommodation has never been so easy!

Another attractive aspect that vacation rentals afford is the central locations many are in. Getting a condo or house in central Florida allows you to visit sites all over the state, if you wish. In or near central Florida, you will be within reasonable driving time of many attractions, including the ocean. From the Orlando area it is very easy to reach all the major theme parks such as Disney and Universal and other places. This is just one of the many benefits to booking self contained holiday accommodation in Florida. Self-catering is the best part of a Florida vacation; while renting your own vacation property, enjoy home-cooked meals instead of paying outrageous prices at the glitz restaurants. Don't think you have to eat fast food just because of your budget; enjoy steak and barbequed chicken in your own private yard. The benefits of self-catering include the ability to have a large breakfast before heading to a theme park; this way, you only need to get lunch and a snack while at the park and can be home for dinner.

Enjoying your vacation will be far easier if you save money on things like accommodations and food. Save your money for what you value the most such as experiences and fun attractions. The benefits of self-catering will include a variety of dinners while vacationing, an avoidance of fast foods, home-cooked meals , and money saved. Enjoy your vacation by saving money with self-catering.

Head North to Alaska Road Trip

Can Alaska be explored in one Road Trip? This informative article offers one way to loop down and around the great and expansive state of Alaska.

One of the first challenges a road trip planner must tackle when he first sets his sights on Alaska is to decide how much driving he wants to do on this road trip. Alaska offers vast mountains, colossal blue-white glaciers and an abundance of wildlife with activities unique to the state; this combination makes one want to see it all, even if it means extending the trip in order to do
    so!

For most road trip planners, their itinerary will start with flight plans. Most people flying in will land in Anchorage. At this point, they'll either rent a car and stay in hotels along the way (reserved in advance of course!) or they'll rent an RV to explore Alaska at their own pace (with their itinerary allowing impromptu exploration options).

After exploring Anchorage's offerings, many place the city of Tok as a destination in their road trip planner because it helps create a good triangle for your road trip. Tok is known as the "Sled Dog Capital of Alaska". Plan on 5 ½ hours driving time from Anchorage but I know you'll stop - even spend a day or two - around the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Get ready for the largest and most magnificent of the National Parks of Alaska, with 9 of the 16 highest peaks in the United States. This mountain region contains numerous glaciers, lakes and mountain streams and is home to a rich variety of wild life. It is superb country for climbers, walkers and water sports enthusiasts.

Fairbanks would be the third point of your trip triangle to add to your road trip planner (Anchorage to Tok to Fairbanks). Some travelers start their Alaskan Road Trip by flying in to Fairbanks, so for them, their trip triangle would be Fairbanks, Anchorage, Tok. Fairbanks is second biggest city of Alaska and has the all the amenities of an urban community. The Gold Rush Street at Pioneer Park was a replica but a real operating gold mine exists in this proud city. Visit the Museum of the North, take a river trip for half-day cruise through the Chena and Tanana Rivers. In the summer, the Riverboat Discovery Tour runs twice a day. Trip reservations are a must so make the necessary arrangements ahead of time.

Leaving Fairbanks, include the impressive Denali National Park in your road trip planner before hitting Anchorage. Denali contains Mount McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America and is definitely worthy of some heavy-duty exploration.

A four- to six-hour drive down south from Denali National Park, passing through Talkeetna, you'll reach the town of Wasilla. Moose or bear sightings along the way are often part of the journey. For canoeing experience, go to the Nancy Lake Recreation Area. There are plenty of cabins to rent for overnight stays. Further south, visit the Big Lake for swimming, camping, jet-ski and fishing. Proceed to Mat-Su Valley and drop by Iditarod Trail Headquarters on Knik Road. Learn some history at Knik Museum and the Sled Dog Musher's Hall of Fame.

Another town to add to your road trip planner is Palmer, only 15 minutes away from Wasilla. There is a great RV campground here as well as some cool farms like the Musk Ox Farm. Best time to be here is in late August when the Alaska State Fair is celebrated.

Leave another day in your road trip planner to explore more of Anchorage. It has plenty of hiking opportunities, cultural events and art exhibits. The Flattop Mountain and Chugach State Park are the city's pride together with Alaska Zoo and Potter Marsh, a bird and wildlife sanctuary.

If you have more time, add another leg of your road trip by driving along the Seward Highway, designated as the All-American Road, and enjoy the scenic view. Picnic opportunities are everywhere, and the picture perfect backdrop is hard to resist. Fishing, camping and canoeing activities in the Kenai/Soldotna area are nice options too.

I've shared one road trip example, but customize yours to reflect your own Dream Alaskan Trip. Below are some tips to help you get the most out of your trip.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO...?

    * See the Northern Lights; plan on coming either late fall and early spring.

    * Enjoy the Midnight Sun; put June 21st in the middle of your road trip planning.

    * Go whale watching; head to Alaska anytime from mid-May through mid-September.

    * View the most wildlife; summer-time will get you sightings of moose, bear, mountain sheep, caribou, coyote, wolves, sheep, beaver, otter, mink, or hare. In addition, birdwatchers can photo-capture eagles, hawks, jays, owls, spruce hens, grouse , and ptarmigan and migratory waterfowl coming north to nest each summer.

Make this the year you go wild with your road trip planning and head North to Alaska for a trip of a lifetime.

Do you Want to fly in a Hot Air Balloon?

Have you taken a flight in a Hot Air Balloon? Would you know what to expect? Are you too frightened? Well, read about my early morning adventure and make up your own mind whether you would really like to do it. Or Not!

This is the morning to take my husband on his surprise tour. It is a Hot Air Balloon ride in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. We get up at 2.45am as we have to be there by 3.30am. We are on holiday, travelling around Australia and this is one of the tours that my husband will love.

I have kept it a sec
et until arriving at our pick up point in town. We travel into an Alice Springs hotel to be collected by the tour bus, and with the logo on its side, our adventure is no longer a surprise. My husband is blown away with it all.

The bus driver is also the balloon operator and he is taking us out of town about 10kms. Once past the airport, he negotiates a dirt track to reach their take off point. Another operator is driving the 4wd vehicle that tows the folded up balloon and basket in a trailer.

We alight from the bus in early morning darkness, and by using the bus headlights, the operators unload the trailer and proceed to set up the balloon. They start up a motor driven fan to partially fill the balloon before firing up the butane gas burner.

One of the operators calls us to the basket and gives us a safety lesson before we get going. He explains how to crouch down in the basket and hold onto a strap when we land. He also asks us to please volunteer to help fold the balloon up after landing, so they can pack it away.

As there is a larger balloon going with us, we watch their proceedings with interest and I am taking heaps of photographs. There are 25 people going on that one, and only 6 people in our smaller basket. I must admit, I feel some trepidation when I check out the size of the basket. But it is almost 110cms high and we have to clamber over it using toe holds.

With a push and a shove from my husband, I am in, warily waiting for liftoff. Even standing on a ladder scares me. I think it strange that the person who took my booking did not ask us our weights beforehand. Ok for the younger and fitter. After all, anyone who is very overweight would not be able to climb in. Would they get a refund, I wonder. Probably not, but they would get embarassed!

No moon shining, but millions of twinkling stars still on display. The operator gives the gas burners a boost, and the noise and heat frightens me enough to almost make me jump out before take-off. I think about the situation for a minute, then I swap places with my husband, who of course, is tougher than I am. I can still hear the loud noise, but I am away from the heat.

All good. We are lifting off and it is a strange feeling of floating with no engine sound. Just the occasional loud burst of flame into the balloon. The operator is kept quite busy adjusting gadgets, but is still able to answer our endless questions. Some come from the other three people, too.

High high are we? How fast are we going? Are those lights over there Alice Springs? Do you do this every day? Will we see kangaroos or any other animals? I laugh to myself. Well, we want our money's worth.

I take some great photos of the larger balloon following behind. It looks quite spectacular against the dark sky with the flames shooting up randomly into the balloon.

But now, the sun is starting to rise through a light dust haze. What a shame, as we do not have a clear view of the ranges. I quickly take a photo of the bright ball of sun that is fighting its way through the haze.

We can see the 4wd keeping up with us along the dirt tracks. Mainly, we see a very wide brown land with green and brown clumps of grass and a few white gum trees. Here and there are black gnarled shrubby trees. I wonder, have they been through a bush fire or is that their natural colour? I want to ask the operator, but the man is busy trying to land us safely. So I let him.

I am waiting with abated breath for the touch down. Maybe the basket will fall over? But we land with a very gentle bump and I have had rougher landings in jets, so feel quite relieved. Ok. That was not too bad. In fact, I believe that I enjoyed it. I know my husband has. I can see the look of enjoyment on his face. He is like a dog with two tails.

Our adventure does not end here, as we are now going back into Alice Springs to have a champagne breakfast. Well, better hurry, as the sooner we pack this air balloon away , the sooner we have brekky and bubbly. You don't have that every day!

If it is your first visit to Anguilla, you are bound to be surprised by the level of hospitality the tiny island with a population of a mere 12,000 people will offer you. The number of Anguillions is undoubtedly small, but their hearts are big and smiles welcoming. The island is popular for its tranquility and has every natural ingredient to make you feel how beautiful life is when you're in nature's lap.

Anguilla is renowned for its beaches. Its 35-mile coastline has over 33 beaches, of which, many ra
k among the best in the Caribbean. The beauty of the soft white sand sloping calmly into the shallow blue waters is breathtaking. What is special about the island is the fact that it has beaches of a wide variety to suit individual preferences. There are beaches that are quiet and secluded, some others that are busier, some ideal for a romantic walk, and some that are coves specially designed for snorkeling, diving, and conducting romantic picnics. All these beaches are serene and spectacular, with cleanliness all around. The most spectacular sight is that of the saltwater ponds that shelter snowy egrets and great blue herons.

If you are traveling with younger kids, you may want to primarily focus on hotels that offer an organized children's program or babysitting. Or if you're vacationing in Anguilla with kids that are older, you might want to pay particular attention to hotels that provide a game room or arcade, and also offer outdoor activities like a swimming pool, water sports, and tennis. No matter what amenities are important for your family, Anguilla has a resort that will be perfect for your family beach vacation.
