Bangkok Hotels &' A Surreal Experience

A visit to Bangkok is often described by many as a surreal experience, especially when one enjoyed a comfortable stay in one of the exuberant hotels in Bangkok. The splendour of the city lies in the fact that this financial hub of south-east Asia, which has also earned the reputation of being one of the best tourist destinations in the world, has hotels which cater to the needs and budgets of everyone.

Whether you are visiting Bangkok on a business trip or have plans to spend your holidays there, this mesmerizing city has plenty o
attractions which have the potential of making your trip an unforgettable experience for you. And staying in a good hotel, within your budget, is only going to enrich your experience to the maximum.

If ones budget is not constrained, and if one is bent upon indulging in one of the most luxurious stays, then it is best to book ones accommodation in a five star hotel in Bangkok. One can also choose from a wide array of four, three or two star hotels which offer equally comfortable and high-spirited stays. Most of the star hotels in Bangkok like Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok, Conrad Hotel, Grand Hyatt Erewan, Four Seasons and InterContinental Bangkok, match the best hotels in the world, in terms of services or facilities. And if you are one of those who want nothing but the best then, hotels like, The Oriental Bangkok or The Peninsula Bangkok would best suit your needs and style, as they head the list of luxurious hotels in Bangkok.

Most of the luxurious hotels can be found along the banks of River, Chao Phraya. It would not be an exaggeration to call the Riverside area as the time-honoured area of city where the spirit of the city originally lies, and hence the hotels in this area have so much to offer to their visitors in terms of captivating and charming sights. The Riverside, with its clean and serene surroundings, is well connected with other important areas of the city through Saphan Taksin which is a key Skytrain terminus. This area is often considered as the traditional spirit of the city and it has lots to offer to the visitors in terms of picture perfect sceneries. Some of the star hotels can also be found in major areas like Silom, Siam Square, Sukhumwit, Surawong, Phloenchit and Ratchadaphisek. One night stay in any of the star luxury hotels costs 2500 baht onwards.

In Bangkok, one can find the mid-class hotels in plenty. Most of the mid-class hotels in Bangkok are very decent and provide all the important facilities and services essential for a comfortable stay. Some of the most well-known mid-range hotels in Bangkok are Chaleena Princess Hotel Bangkok and Citadines Bangkok Sukhumvit. One can also choose to stay in 13 Coins Airport Grand which is a resort with optimum charges. Although these mid range hotels are distributed all over Bangkok, it would not be wrong to say that most of the mid range hotels are concentrated around areas like Silom, Sukhumwit, Surawong and Phloenchit. Most of the mid range hotels are reasonably priced in the range of 750 to 2000 baht per night.

Bangkok is one of the very few capital cities, which has budget hotels distributed profusely over the entire city, and which provide all basic amenities at a very low cost of 50 baht to 750 baht. Travellers looking for budget accommodations can try reasonably priced hotels like Bangkok city Inn Hotel, Diamond City Hotel, Manohra Hotel, Royal Pacific Hotel or Samran Place Hotel. Bangkok also surprises the travellers with the location of these budget hotels, which can be found almost adjacent to the star and luxury hotels. It is in complete contrast with the West where budget hotels cannot be found in the central locations. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Bangkok is one city which allows the budget travellers to enjoy and have fun to the maximum.

If you are one of those fashion conscious people who love to enjoy the nightlife, then it would be best to stay in a hotel at a central location in Bangkok like Silom, Suriwongse Road, Sukhumvit or the Soi Cowboy area. It will not only keep you in close proximity with the hustle and bustle of the city, but will also enrich your nightlife experience. If shopping is your weakness, then you can try staying in Siam Square area which is quite reputed for fun shopping. This area is quite close to Mahboonkrong (MBK) shopping mall. Both these areas can be reached through the Skytrain routes. But if visiting other parts of Thailand is your priority over holidaying in Bangkok, then it is highly recommended that you determine on a hotel near Bangkok Airport.

Any discussion on the hotels in Bangkok would be incomplete without the mention of Khao San Road which is also considered as "the centre of the backpacking universe". This area is the undisputed favourite of the budget backpackers visiting Thailand and South East Asia. Though this area lags behind in providing connectivity to other major areas of the city, but it is still considered as the best area to stay in, if one wants to enjoy the conventional and ascetic charms of the city.

Mayan Riviera, Mexico - Why is it so Popular?

The Mayan Riviera, a stretch of coastline on the Yucatan Peninsula running from just outside Cancun in the North to the ancient Mayan site of Tulum in the South is rapidly growing in popularity.  Why has this previously quiet area of the Yucatan Peninsula become a magnate for tourists?

Fantasy Island

For me, the transformation from American city dweller to Greek island life, from first world competition to a somewhat less hurried lifestyle, has been a success. Not to say that I have not seen many during my five years here who have been unable to make the transition. Still, I can't help feeling that the so-called "island mentality" existed within me long before I came to Corfu--to act out my fantasy. Indeed, Corfu (and other like islands) are borne in one's fantasy. The reality, with all its joys and foibles, must prove
o be something different, something in and of itself. Of this, I am convinced.

The England You Never Knew

Many people are familiar with the England they see on television and the news media but there are some interesting facts about this European county that are little known and might surprise you.

Many people are familiar with the England they see on television and the news media but there are some interesting facts about this European county that are little known and might surprise you.

England, even though it is regarded as a large country, is less than half the size of America. It is half as small as Austra
ia and thirty percent smaller than Japan. It holds almost three times as many people as Australia and twice as many as the state of California. London has a total population of over twelve million people. It is the largest city in all of Europe and was once the biggest city in the world. With all these people living here, it is no surprise that England consumes more tea than any other place in the world. Its tea consumption far surpasses that of Japan!

From the beginning of the 11th century through the 14th century, the rulers of England spoke French.  Richard the Lionheart, one of England's most famous kings, spoke no English, hated the weather and spent only 6 months of his ten-year-reign in England.  Still, his English subjects loved him and almost beggared themselves to collect an enormous ransom to free him from captivity in Austria.

The English school system is another oddity.  While there's now a reasonably good state school system in place, the well-bred and the well-off still send their children to Public Schools – which are actually private and extremely costly – as they have done for centuries.  In the past, these schools were the jumping board into England's famous universities.  Now anyone who can pass the entry exam will earn a place, but Oxford University still has a rule that forbids its students to bring their bows and arrows to class with them!

And if you consider that London is one of the largest cities in the world, one of the largest financial centers in the world and has – in London Heathrow – one of the busiest international airports in the world – would it then amaze you to learn that English police officers go about their duties unarmed? How totally unique is that?

Frank Lloyd Wright's Ageless Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix

While at the hotel front desk checking out we completed our usual vacation ritual: we mailed ourselves a postcard. Even if it is just a short visit, we do this to remind us of what an excellent time we had, because as we all know, the memories of a vacation often fade much quicker than the sunburn. In whatever time it takes, either a few days or weeks, for the ___ (fill in the blank with the appropriate country's postal system) to deliver our postcard to the doorsteps of our home, our vacation refresher arrives. We typically use a
icturesque postcard of the one thing that will remind us most of where we've been and what we've enjoyed. We try to keep our message succinct, and in this case, it only needed to say nine necessary words, "Sweet dreams from The Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa."

By writing this on our postcard, it appeals to one of the most basic instincts that our unscientific minds are confident is genetic and originates from the early days when cave men roamed the earth. Of course, we're referring to the utmost in primal urges and is the lusting after the cocoa concoction of the gods commonly known as chocolate. It's a proven fact that there is no better way to make my wife weak in the knees than to hook her up with the rich creamy goodness of chocolate coupled with a good cabernet wine. In this case, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa, they made a point to put two delightful squares of Godiva chocolate on our pillows each night of our glorious stay. This obviously resulted in the sweet dreams that rounded out each day's jam-packed activities planned at The Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa.

Like chocolate, the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa has an equally rich and luxurious history. On February 23, 1929, Albert Chase McArthur, an architect, builder and former architectural student of Frank Lloyd Wright, and Frank Lloyd Wright, his consulting architect, christened this to be the jewel of the Arizona desert. With its 39 beautifully landscaped acres it quickly became Phoenix's premier destination resort.

During this project, Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian concrete block was used extensively. This was a concrete block that was poured on-site using local indigenous materials and was often poured into a mold that had a decorative geometric motif. Frank Lloyd Wright was once quoted as saying, "I believe in God, only I spell it nature." In the only remaining hotel he designed, this massive architectural creation is reminiscent of a Mayan temple and uses a repeated organic form of a crosshatch design inspired from the trunk of a desert palm tree as the main focal point. This design is known as "The Biltmore Block" and was created by southwest sculptor Emry Kopta.

Since Mr. Wright's greatest inspiration came from nature, and nature was readily available for all to enjoy, it only made sense that this now 74-year-old, very well maintained structure nestled in the foothills of Squaw Peak should remain a legacy for all to use and admire. Whether the guests were Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra or even today's movie stars, The Arizona Biltmore has been a haven for not only the rich and famous, but for all seeking a relaxing experience in one of the beautifully appointed 736 guestrooms.

The Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa also has the largest banquet and conference facilities in Arizona and has won many prestigious awards. With its numerous extensive renovations, this resort remains as a Four Star tribute to natural beauty melded with outstanding architecture. Many places claim to be influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural style, but this resort is the real thing that guests return to year after year.

Each building and guest room expresses Frank Lloyd Wright's attention to meshing the interior design with the exterior architecture in a harmonious fashion.

For example, the up lit second level elevation in the Mayan temple-like resort lobby draws your attention upward to the 376,000 shimmering 4" x 4" gold and copper leaves that were hand applied to the two-story 38,000 square foot ceiling as they reflect both natural and artificially created light. The backlit glass "Biltmore Blocks" throughout this huge space provides soft indirect lighting while perpetuating the geometric palm tree motif.

Often, these Biltmore Blocks, the signature of the Arizona Biltmore, are interchanged and rotated to create various geometric patterns throughout the entire resort. The warm earth tones of gold, green, taupe, yellow, rust and tan give a soothing calm to the numerous conversation seating areas, carpeting, rugs and wallpaper.

The desert colored high-backed chairs create what Frank Lloyd Wright would call, "a room within a room" and provide intimacy while still amid the hustle and bustle of the huge lobby. Sturdy copper tables in various shapes with glass or granite table tops anchor heavy woven fabric covered chairs, while low wide leather ottomans resting within niches soften the texture of the gray poured concrete block walls and create volume.

Wood craftsman and mission-style furnishings and textiles provide a sense of luxury while resting on carpeting and area rugs with repeating geometric shapes. Brightly colored blue, green, orange and red original geometric stained glass windows provide fun splashes of color.

As typical with many Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, horizontal glass windows are plentiful and allow natural light in and shadows to be created throughout different times of the day as the light plays with the natural pottery, candles, and sculptures. The varying textures of art glass doors obscure shapes and invite you to touch and experience the luxury of the space. The large wood planked floor helps to give an earthy, natural presence to the space. It is easy to explore, experience and be one with this interior design as it draws you in and helps you escape and be immune from all the troubles in the world as you faintly hear the ivories on the baby grand piano being tickled off in the distance.

Drinking on board of Air Mauritius Flight

The unconditional followers of Bacchus on Air Mauritius flights are warned. Government is coming with a new Bill that makes strict provisions for the prevention and punishment of violent and disruptive behavior by drunken passengers and improves safety and security on board.

You are warned. Fly but don't get drunk, says Minister.

There is an issue with the number of drunken passengers on Air Mauritius flights, says the Minister of Tourism and External Communication, Mr. Xavier Luc Duval. "They cause proble
s to other passengers and staff and now Government wants to put into place preventive measures. We intend to have a law that will allow us to prosecute disruptive passengers once they land," he adds.

However, he says: "We will not ban drinking on our flights; we do not want to change the customer's experience. Why should we penalize the majority of well-behaved passengers because of a drunken few?" The proposed Civil Aviation (Hijacking and other Offences) (Amendment) Bill, under section 5A reads as follows: Any person who, on board an Aircraft flight – (a) intimidates or threatens a crew member, whether physically or verbally, or uses abusive language against him, or lessens the ability of a crew member to perform his duties; (b) obstructs or hinders a crew member in the performance of his duties; (c) willfully refuses to follow a lawful instruction given by the aircraft commander, or on behalf of the aircraft commander by a crew member, for the purpose of  ensuring the safety of the aircraft or of any person or property on board, or for the purpose of maintaining  good order and discipline on board, shall commit an offence.

(2) Any person who, on board an Air Mauritius in flight (a) intimidates or threatens, whether physically or verbally another person or uses abusive language against another person; (b) willfully damages or destroys property not belonging to him;(c) is under the influence of an intoxicating drink (i.e. alcohol) or of a drug to such extent as to be incapable of behaving properly, shall commit an offence. One tour Operator believes that the new legislation would be a step towards the right direction. "This is an excellent initiative. The Bill would bring Mauritius in line with other countries, which have laws that offer protection on flights. It is important that at a time when we expect a rise in the volume of tourists, we can assure flight staff a safe working environment."

The president of the Association of Travel Agencies, Mr. Willy Cheung said: "It is a good piece of legislation that will act as a deterrent. It will protect the cabin crews, and the passengers too." One steward said: "This new legislation was long overdue. Flight crews have had enough with drunken passengers. They think that we are here to put up with their abuse and ill manners. Not only do they make our job tougher but also they spoil the mood of other passengers. I applaud the Government for this initiative." An airhostess said: "Dealing with drunken passengers is a cabin crew's worst nightmare. We must be very initiative to find a diplomatic ways to ask them to stop drinking. We have received training to deal with this issue, but I must confess, it can get quite tiring.

The Benefits Of Using An Online Travel Agency

Most people who go on vacation like to book trips through a travel agent in order to take some of the stress out of the planning process. Travel agents can also help you save money on flight, hotel rooms, cruises, and more; but what about online travel agencies? While people worry that Internet travel agencies could scam you or provide low-quality service, there are actually a number of benefits to choosing an online travel agency, providing that you pick the right one.

First and foremost, with an online travel agency, yo
can work with the place that has the lowest prices without geography limits. In other words, you have more options! When you opt to choose a travel agency in an offline setting, you are limited to the handful of companies that operate in your neighborhood, or at least within a reasonable distance. People who live in major cities might especially be affected by the high prices of brick and mortar travel agencies. Online, there are not proximity limits. The travel agency with which you work might actually have headquarters thousands of miles away, but if they have the lowest prices, you can still work with them over the Internet.

The increased number of choices does not just help you save money. It also means that you have limitless possibilities when it comes to travel. The travel agencies in your areas probably can book dozens or even hundreds of different trips, but there will be limitations. Even if an offline travel agent can plan a vacation to an obscure destination for you, it is not likely that he or she will be an expert in travel to this location. Online, you can find a family or an individual who has been there and will plan an amazing vacation for you. There are few places in the world where you cant travel if you work with an online travel agency.

Another great aspect of working with an online travel agency is that you can shop for your vacation package any time of the day or night. Brick and mortar business usually close soon after the end of the regular business day, and many are not open for long hours on the weekend. The Internet is open 24 hours a day. While you may not always be able to call a customer service representative, especially if you like to do vacation planning at three in the morning, you can always check out packages offer on travel websites. This is especially handy for parents who need to plan after the kids are in bed, people who work odd hours, and those living in rural locations where the nearest travel agency office is a fairly far drive.

One of the often-overlooked benefits of an online travel agency is the control you have to make your own choices without outside influences or pressure. When you visit an office, many travel agents have the same tone as used car salesmen. You have to remember that these people are often working under some kind of commission program. Instead of making an hourly wage, they earn a percentage of your total vacation price, and even if they do have a salaried job, they may get incentives from travel companies (hotels, cruise lines, etc) for selling amount every month. Many travel agents get to go on free trips for every ten or twenty vacation packages they sell. So, you might feel pressured to book a trip when you are not done exploring your options or upgrade certain aspects, even though you do not have the money. Online travel agencies typically take a more hands-off approach. That does not mean that they wont help you, of course. Most are more than willing to answer questions via email or over the phone. However, when it comes to working with an online travel agency, you do not have someone looming over your shoulder, trying to make a sale as you check out your vacation options.

Also, when you work with an online travel agency, you usually have more payment choices. Today, some offline travel agencies offer payment plans, credit card payments, and so forth, but this is not always the case. When you work online to plan you vacation, however, you can always find a type payment that will work for you. Some even have payment programs that allow you to earn points for every dollar you spend, which can go towards gift certificates or future trips.

Be aware that there are still scammers posing as online travel agencies and other travel sites, and you always need to read the fine print of any website where you make a purchase. However, online travel agencies are often a less expensive, easier, and more convenient way to book a vacation.

Exploring Phitsanulok And Sukhothai, Thailand

My aim was to spend a few days exploring the lower provinces of the North of Thailand, with Phitsanulok and Sukhothai as the main destinations, and in particular the Sukhothai Historical Park.

I eventually chose Phitsanulok as the first place to see, and also decided to go by car. However, from Bangkok, you can also get an air-con bus from the Mor Chit 2 terminal, or take the train from Hua Lamphong railway station.

Just as a small side note, I find the trains in Thailand to be very comfortable and exceptionally good value for
oney. But I do recommend that you book your ticket beforehand. Other stations in the North of Thailand are at Lampang, and, of course, Chiang Mai.

You can also fly to Phitsanulok with Thai Airways from Don Meuang airport, and also to Sukhothai with Bangkok Airways from Suvarnabhumi airport. You can check out the flight schedules using a little gem of an Internet application that I recently found at the flightstats.com website called The Road Warrior Tools. Other functions include flight status, airport delays, the weather and much, much more!

Anyway, back to the journey to Phitsanulok by car. With the detailed driving directions and travel information provided by Google Maps, it took me just over six and half hours to cover the 390 kilometers, which was very much in line with the information that Google Maps had given me - 376 kilometers and 5 hours 25 minutes. However, I made a couple of stops.

I like Phitsanulok! But some people have told me that they found it boring!

I find the life around both sides of the Nan River that divides Phitsanulok in to the East and West banks, to be both charming and fascinating. And the evening food stalls that you will also find on both sides of the river offer a variety of mouthwatering dishes. And for something slightly more formal, try out one of the riverbank floating restaurants. Also check out the night bazaar, again, near to the river, for local souvenirs, clothes, including Thai silk, antiques etc.

As hotels are not plentiful in Phitsanulok, I would book beforehand, and if you are looking for that delightful little guesthouse on the riverbank at B500 per night, let me know! I have stayed at the Grand Riverside, which is centrally situated, very near to the river, and the night bazaar is just a short walk away over the nearby bridge. Budget around B1,500 per night for a standard room.

After a good nights rest it is off to the Sukhothai Historical Park, which is on UNESCO\'s World Heritage list. It is a fairly short journey to the new Sukhothai city from Phitsanulok, and takes about one hour. However, the historical city of Sukhothai is another twelve kilometers west from the new city, and is near to the Phitsanulok to Tak highway.

For me, the Sukhothai Historical Park is a must see in Thailand. Formerly the capital of Siam, it was founded in 1238. There are over 190 ruins in the Park, and these include the royal palace, temples, the largest being Wat Mahathat, the city walls and gates, moats, canals and the remains of the original water dyke system.

There is a Park tourist information centre near Wat Phra Phai Luang, and the site is best seen by hiring a bicycle from a small shop outside the main entrance, and that way you can even explore the temples outside the city walls.

You really need at least a couple of days to visit the Sukhothai Historical Park, so I would recommend staying over at one of new Sukhothais guesthouses, probably selecting the Lotus Village. This is a delightful small boutique hotel, set in lovely gardens, with the rooms located in Thai style teak houses, superb food and service and an excellent location in the heart of the city and very near to the Yom River. Budget around B1,300 for an air-con bungalow, and less for a fan room.

Both Phitsanulok and Sukhothai can be visited over a long weekend, but that is a bit of a whistle stop tour. I suggest that you plan for five days if you can afford the time. There is so much more to see and do both inside and outside the cities.

And finally, and as usual, a big hello to all my friends at the Thailand Web Zone, www.thailandwebzone.com, which is a new Thai social networking and Thailand community site. Share information in Thai forums and Thailand articles, meet people, share photos, music and video, find & submit information on Thailand travel. Make new friends from all over the world! Top Ten Travel Destinations

Naming top ten travel destinations could prove easy, but how relevant such a list is, that is debatable. This article refers to the most popular locations identified or recognized starting from the statistics made with international travel agencies, and on the basis of travelers' reviews posted on various web pages.

To many tourists, Latin America is the perfect place to go on holiday: there is the beauty of cities like Rio de Janeiro and the mystical attraction of Peru and the ancient Maya and Inca cultural remnants. The cu
tural impact, the leisure activities combined with favorable climates, make this part of the world become the holiday destination of millions of tourists from all over the world.

Europe deserves its good name for the great sights it offers to travelers: Paris, Rome, Venice, Spain's Arab treasures and the misty lands of Ireland and Scotland, and these are just a few of the things that make the old continent one in the top ten travel destinations. Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza require a special mention here, as they complete the list of exotic resorts in the European part of the world.

The Egyptian Pyramids and Morocco mark any foreigner who visits them, and travel agencies sell thousands of touristic packages for holidays on to the North of Africa. One of the features of African resorts consists in the constant touristic push and a magic harmony in the mixture of cultures that mingle so much in the crowded North-African cities. Whether you choose a well known resort or a more discreet one, this part of Africa will always rank among the top ten travel destinations.

Moving further on to the distant countries of the Far East it is impossible not to notice the fascination with Nepal and the ancient Buddhist temples on the roof of the world. It is the Nepalese capital city, Kathmandu, with its thirteen hundred years of history that embraces most of the tourist crowds. As for the climbing of the Everest, very few courageous people dare to challenge their limits on the crests of Himalaya.

Last but not least, lots of great sunny islands can be included in a top ten travel destinations list: Bali, Jamaica, Crete, Hawaii and many others, which is why the list proves virtually limitless, as so are the beauties man and God created. It goes without saying that the places that you take most to the heart are those you'd also like to visit, and therefore, anyone can create a list of top ten travel destinations.

8-Tips for Packing and Traveling Lite

In this day and age of traveling echolalia, there are a few packing tactics to employ. To learn how to pack all your needs into one suitcase, use the following pithy packing tips to make your travel light. These travel light tips are: Make a list. Compose a pack list, Roll 'me up please, Gear up, Minimize bulk, Employ shoe smarts, Put under garments on the top, Lose Extra Baggage, Leave restricted items at home. By using these tips you can make your travel light.

How-to Pack and Travel LiteIn this day and age of travelin
echolalia, there are a few packing tactics to employ. To cut out an extra thirty to forty minutes at the arriving airport, start with packing small luggage. Since carry-ones can not exceed a linear dimension of 45 inches, you can escape the fiasco of the baggage terminal by simply packing and traveling light. To learn how to pack all your needs into one suitcase, read more.

Use the following pithy packing tips to make your travel light:

Make a list. Compose a pack list. Be sure to coordinate shirts and blouses with bottoms. To maximize your traveling wardrobe fashion savoir faire, stick with solids and versatile basics. Rule-out any clothes that do not match other items.

Roll 'me up please. The best way to fit all your clothes is by rolling pants and shirts. First fold each item in half. Then simply roll. To try to maintain any creases, start on the bulkiest end of the article of clothing.

Gear up. How to make an awe-inspiring impression out of a basic or mundane outfit? For the most glam appeal, accessorize with a vibrant tie (for him) or a florid scarf (for her). Multihued accessories can liven up just about any attire.

Minimize bulk. After you check for space, edit outfits – ruthlessly. Try to pack micro fibers with wrinkle and stain free comfort. With most of your attire, stay in the same color scheme – in case you have to layer up for warmth.

Employ shoe smarts. For men, any leather rubber-soled shoes can make the day and night transition, easy. For woman, a pair of flip-flops, satrapy sandals and comfy wedges can serve all casual – chic dressing needs.

Put under garments on the top. To reduce the embarrassment of under garments becoming the side show attraction of the open luggage scan, place all panties in a plastic bag free of any clippers, lighters or other questionable paraphernalia. For expedient security review, place the transparent bag on top of your other items so security can access the bag without ruining your efficient packing method.

Lose Extra Baggage. Leave the heavy travel guide at home. Duplicate important resources to keep your luggage free of extra pounds. Since most hotels and resorts provide irons and blow-dryers --leave yours at home for light travel.

Leave restricted items at home. If you want to make it through security extra fast, avoid any firearms, weapons, box-cutters, scissors, razors, lighters and any other item that may be used in a terrorist situation.

s and sounds of life in Oklahoma City and the shops and activities along the banks of the canal, the best way to do it is to board a water taxi, have a comfortable ride, experience life in Bricktown firsthand before getting dropped at the Harkins Theatres, or one of the many eateries along the banks including Earls Rib Palace, Falcones Pizzeria, or Toby Keiths I Love This Bar and Grill.

The other destinations a water taxi of Oklahoma City connects include the Red Pin Bowling Lounge, Residence Inn by Mariott and the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. The dock to board a water taxi from, the Bricktown Riverwalk, is itself located below Mickey Mantle Boulevard and in close proximity to the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

A water taxi arrives every 10-15 minutes at the dock. One can board the water taxi here, from other docks in lower Bricktown, or the dock at the west end of the stream that leads to the Bass Pro Shops. Tuscany - At the Mercato (Market Square) in Viareggio

Learn all about Tuscany's market square to shop at called Mercato in Viareggio.

It is my first morning back in Tuscany. Here at the market place, vendors offer bountiful catches.  Viareggini love their seafood and can tell the seasons by what types are available; from the spaghetti-like Anguille Cieche' (tiny blind baby eels) of the icy winter to the Arselle, (baby clams) gathered by combing the submerged sand in summer, these specimens come to full glory in a variety of delectable spicy dishes:
I>Cacciucco (a fish stew), Antipasti di Mare, assorted Primi (soup, rice or pasta "first" courses) and endless, tempting entrees.

As I negotiate my way among pedestrians, cyclists, and people pushing strollers, I run into one of my many distant cousins roaming the Mercato to do her grocery shopping.  Her bicycle lock dangles from her belt.  She immediately tells me that today (Tuesday) is the day fresh Mozzarella di Bufala arrives from Naples. I labor to keep up with the   conversation. Her speech is high pitched and delivered in rapid bursts like rounds from a machine gun.  This is one of the two speech patterns typical of Viareggio; the other, a deliberate cadence, is so slow that you could take a nap between words.

We head straight for the Neapolitan-owned store arm in arm, while catching up on each other's lives (mostly hers).  As we enter the store, very bad Italian rap music is playing in the background and my cousin is delighting in racing from one colorful story to another.  I tune out everything at the sight of all that lies before me inside the immaculate display counter:  mouth-watering cheeses, both local and from other regions of Italy, shining varieties of brine-cured and marinated olives, capers, anchovies, sausages and pre-cooked foods.  But the treasure we are seeking is in the large barrel by the cashier.  Immersed in their milky water, are beautiful fresh balls of glistening white mozzarella just arrived from the Campania Region. Eureka!

We both buy one, as well as various local products, with the intention of using the contents of our packages for lunch.  Mozzarella can be used in multiple preparations and pairs well with tomatoes, basil and extra-virgin olive oil.  But this delicate delight is most wonderful when, fresh from the cheese maker, it releases cream in your mouth with every bite. Given previous experiences, I know that my mozzarella may never make it home. I decide to buy a second ball.

My cousin, who is suddenly in a hurry to leave, kisses me on both cheeks, invites me to dinner, does not wait for my answer and waves good-bye as she scurries away.  I have yet to master the ability of artfully turning down a family invitation.

As I stand in front of the store watching her walk away, I hear shouting emanating from the cheese shop as three women and a man argue with each other and with the clerk over who should be served first.  Standing in line patiently awaiting one's turn is a concept foreign to most Italians who would prefer to show how furbi (cunning) they are by triumphantly stealing a spot in the queue.

I head to another area of the market place, step into the bar/caffe that makes the best espresso in town and ask for a cappuccino and a budino di riso (a heavenly, rice-pudding pastry found only in Tuscany).  I have been anticipating this moment for weeks.  I observe with relish as the barista measures out the perfect amount of finest quality, freshly ground coffee and inserts the portafilter attachment into the machine.  With a familiar flourish, the push of a button and an affectionate pat, she coaxes a dense, dark extract out of her shining espresso maker. Swoosh, shwooo as she holds the frothing pitcher of whole milk under the steam valve. A proud smile:  "Ecco, Signora!" I am presented with a foamy, hot cappuccino that looks smells and tastes like nothing found outside of Italy.  Perhaps it is the water… but more likely it is the attention to each enjoyable detail, the perfect blending and the obvious care of the barista that gives me that "Ahhh" sensation.  This feeling of utmost satisfaction is a prelude to another journey of exploration and a great beginning to a new Tuscan adventure!  Visit http://www.ToscanaMia.biz  to learn more about travelling to Tuscany, Italy.

Why Take A Self Drive Golf Holiday In Northern France

Whether you want to take the Eurotunnel under the channel for an early tee time, or sail across and spend a longer holiday amongst the available holes, self drive golf holidays in France are incredibly enjoyable and well worth the trip. We examine why you should chose to drive yourself across the channel and some of the many benefits this kind of holiday brings...

Why Take a Self Drive Golf Holiday in Northern France

Northern France offers some of the best golfing holidays and experiences in the world. From luxuriou
hotels to immaculate courses, the region is overflowing with opportunities for avid golfers, especially if you want to travel to more than one of the great courses on offer. We look at some of the reasons to take a self drive golf holiday to Northern France, and the many advantages this type of holiday brings...

Speed

One of the main reasons to go on a self drive golf holiday to Northern France is the various speeds with which you can get there. If you decide to, you can take a long cruise across the channel, taking in the coasts of Britain and France and enjoying the trip to the full. However, if like most of us you can't wait to be out on the fairway, you can take the Eurotunnel. At 35 minutes from Folkstone to Calais, you can be at your destination less than an hour after you depart (depending on relative distances). This also means that with some careful planning you can take a half day, be on the course by the afternoon, spend the evening at the clubhouse or local hotel and then be back at work the next day.

Flexibility

Another great reason for taking your car on a golf holiday in France is the flexibility it offers you. Taking your own car means less time worrying about the minutiae of how you get to the course and more time on the course itself.

Taking your car also gives you more flexibility when it comes to accommodation; not waiting for a taxi, chauffer or transfer means you can stay in the hotel of your choice, be it linked with the clubhouse, in the next town, or even a boutique hotel further into the Normandy countryside. It also makes your French golf holiday more tailored to your needs - if you want to get to the course earlier or leave a little later; you are in control with your own car.

Choice of courses

Taking your own car has another added benefit on a golf holiday in France, that of choice of courses to play on. While you obviously choose which course you want to play on, if you want to play on more than one over the period of your golf holiday, a car is invaluable. Booking the tee time of your choice at several of Northern France's gorgeous and prestigious golf courses presents a problem unless you can actually get there, and being autonomous with your own transport makes this much easier.

Taking a self-drive golf holiday in Northern France gives you the flexibility, choice and luxury you deserve on your holidays. It also provides you with the control over where you go, at what time, and for how long as opposed to being at the mercy of deadlines and leaving times from shuttles and hotel taxis.

Why Online Airfare prices are cheaper and how prices on one site are different from prices on competitor sites?

Lets start from the explanation of Online Airfares. Airfares are fares given directly from major domestic and international airlines to airline wholesalers (consolidators) to sell to travel resellers at reduced rates.

Airlines work with consolidators to help fill up unsold airline seat inventory, which may otherwise go empty and generate no revenue for the airline. Fares are often deeply discounted - up to 70% off of the regular published fares. Due to such discounts there are a lot of consolidators willing to distribute the
. That means that the same fare might be viewed by hundreds of people at the same time from anywhere in the world and who ever will clicks to get it first will get it for the price consolidator was selling it for. Yes, for the price consolidator was selling it for. You should remember that consolidators add their preferred mark up on top of the priced given by airlines. Sure, that's consolidator's profit, but a lot of different and mostly smaller sites, like www.worldcheaper.com for example, would add $50 on top of the price instead of $150 or even $200 like big ones do. Before you get a ticket we would suggest to search around, try seeing all possible sites (rates). You can purchase the same ticket for different price from different consolidators. Sure you have to remember to make sure, that you are buying from the original site and not from the affiliate. Most of the affiliates don't have good and quick reply support and won't be able to do things like canceling ticket or changing name on the ticket. One of the ways to check is to look on the bottom task bar of the Internet Explorer and see the URL that displayed while you search. If it's different from URL that you see in your upper URL Address bar, then it's an affiliate. Good luck finding a lowest fare.

World Reviewer\\\'s Travel Tips: Travel Insurance

Before you travel ask yourself 'How prone to accident or injury am I?' and 'How wrecked will my trip be if I have to do it without my luggage?' Then think about your travel insurance options - World Reviewer has some travel insurance tips.

Before You Take The Plunge: A Quick Aside

Travel Insurance is a high stakes game. Some consider it a gamble, the sort th
t most of us have to do, placing a bet against our luck.

How much money is wagered is really the game. The questions and criteria range from "How prone to accident or injury am I?" to "How lost or otherwise destroyed will my trip be if I have to do it without my luggage?" But these are only a few of the factors to take into account when figuring out the matter of travel insurance.

Taking notes from the philosophies of certain twelve-step programs, the first step is admitting that there's a problem – in this case that step means admitting that you need travel insurance – which can be a hard pill to swallow. Insurance is usually the last factor taken into account when planning a trip and for good reason - no one wants to think about what could go wrong on their vacation.

Brass Tacks: The Basics for Travel Insurance

These are most important questions to ask yourself when purchasing your travel insurance policy:

  • Am I covered for the entire duration of my trip?

  • Am I covered for medical care in case I become injured or ill?

  • Does my policy have 24-hour emergency service and assistance?

  • Will I be covered if I damage property? How about if I am sued?

  • Does my coverage extend to lost or stolen property?

  • If I should fall ill or cannot otherwise finish my trip, can I decide to curtail or outright cancel my trip? If so, will I get my money back?

  • What kind of extra risk will I put on myself on this trip? Will I be covered should the unthinkable occur?

  • If the airline I booked my flight through goes bankrupt, will I be covered?

Tips for choosing the right insurance

  • Read the fine print. The last thing an insurance company wants is to pay claims. Through murky language and exclusions, insurance companies limit their coverage and may leave you in the cold should a disaster strike – so clarify what you're getting.

  • If you're holidaying somewhere like the Amazon Rainforest purchase a policy that includes medical coverage appropriate to the danger level of a wild tropical climate – get covered for illness and injury.

  • Assume the best, but plan for the worst. If you take an uninsured ski vacation in Aspen, one rock on the ski run could be the difference between a cheap winter excursion and a small financial apocalypse when you're removed from the slopes by air ambulance at your own expense.

  • You get what you pay for. Cheap insurance policies may seem thrifty, but there's no point paying for insurance if it leaves you only partly covered.

  • Insurance you buy from travel suppliers can be less inclusive than policies purchased through insurance companies - read the fine print and make sure you're getting the coverage you need. Travel companies make a profit selling insurance so buying it from an insurance company direct may even save you.

  • Take into account how much you travel each year. Frequent travellers, can save time and money by purchasing annual multi-trip insurance.

  • Even if you insure your luggage watch your possessions like a hawk. When it comes to lost or stolen luggage, the company is only legally obligated to pay you the amount you insure it for which could be less than the real value. If you're taking jewellery or expensive camera equipment etc. on your journey, you may want to insure it separately. So much fraud occurs with "lost" or "stolen" camera equipment that some insurance companies will hesitate to honor your policy outright – especially if it's professional equipment – but it can be easier if you have separate policies.

  • Make sure you've got your visa before you schedule a flight and buy insurance. Countries like China that require a visa can put a damper on your plans by refusing your application and many travel and insurance companies will not cover you in that event.

Time well spent in Cowes harbour

Cowes is an English seaport town on the Isle of Wight, an island south of Southampton.

Cowes is located on the west bank of the estuary of the River Medina facing the smaller town of East Cowes on the east Bank. Best known as the world's premier yachting centre, Cowes is the Island's main port with a natural harbour. The towns are linked by an old-fashioned chain ferry and have a tradition of fine ship building, dating from the reign of Elizabeth I. Then came the yacht building industry, as sailing became a popul
r sport, endorsed by the royal family. In 1854, the Royal Yacht Squadron was moved into Cowes Castle, the former Tudor fort, and the name of Cowes has been synonymous with yachting ever since.

Cowes is accessible from the mainland by Ferry, but a great way to explore the area is by RIB. Cowes RIB charter enables fast and exciting travel around the area as well as access to tricky or shallow areas. Skippered RIB charter gives you the freedom to explore, but with the added knowledge and experience of a skipper to guide you. Water sports and activities are also available through RIB hire in Cowes. Another option for those looking for a more unique experience is to charter a Thames sailing barge. A Thames sailing barge charter offers a huge amount of space to entertain guests in an unusually nautical setting.

Gathering Travel Information for Your Trip

This travel article discusses how to gather, organize and pack travel information if you're a budget traveler who wants to pack light. It is based on the author's own travel experiences.

If you're a budget traveler who must carry or drag your luggage through airports, subway systems and city streets, then you'll want to travel as lightly as you can. One area where you can really cut down on both the size and the weight of what you carry on a trip, plus make yourself less of a target for street criminals, is when
it comes to packing travel information. Before your trip, by all means, read all of the guidebooks about your intended destination that you can get your hands on. Use them to help you plan your itinerary and to choose your personal must-see sites for each city or region that you plan to travel to. Read them, but don't take them with you on your trip. They can be extremely heavy and bulky and amount to dead weight. In addition, sitting in a big city park or on a subway train reading a travel guidebook to that city marks you as a pigeon ripe for the plucking. You may as well wear a big hat that says, "Tourist."I use two alternative means of carrying critical trip information with me. First of all, as I read travel guidebooks, I take old fashioned handwritten notes: from particularly interesting bits of historical information, to the opening hours of shops and banks, to key foreign language phrases. I take notes on each city or town, including specific monuments or buildings that I know I'll want to see due to my personal taste in art and architecture, not just going by what the guidebooks say that everyone should see. This way a few pages of lightweight handwritten notes allow me to distill key bits of information without adding to the weight of my luggage.I know that as I arrive in each town I can pick up a brochure that will include a town map and the opening hours for each site of interest. This single brochure can stay right in my pocket where it can easily be consulted as needed while I'm sightseeing, yet stay discretely out of sight the rest of the time. If I'm in Prague, for instance, one slim combination map and brochure in my pocket is more easily consulted than a big guidebook, plus it sure beats traipsing around Prague carrying a heavy travel guidebook that covers all of Europe.Today, with the advent of Internet, trip planning has become easier than ever. Although there are many bogus travel sites on the net that are nothing but come-ons for overpriced hotels, there are also many good ones. I particularly like going directly to the official websites of each monument, city, region or country that I want to learn about. It can be a time-consuming process, but there's a treasure trove of travel information, plus maps and photos, to be found. Via books and the net I can learn about the major tourist attractions of each place, as well as find details about the quirkier sites or the downright odd ones that might be of interest to me.I can gather up train schedules for each leg of my journey, historical information, up-to-date prices, and opening days and hours for each historical site and museum, and plenty more. Patience during the planning stages of a big trip can save infinite time and inconvenience during the trip. Anyway, learning about places you've always dreamt of seeing is part of the fun.Online I can seek out low cost hotels and chart them on city maps to determine which ones seem the most conveniently located in relation to historic town centers, and I can then book rooms via email. If I were to print out every single Internet page that is of interest to me, though, I'd soon end up with a mass of papers as heavy as those inadvisable-to-lug-around traditional bulky travel guidebooks. Much of each printout page would amount to wasted blank space or irrelevant banner ads and link lists, as well, so this is what I do: I create a blank text document and each bit of information that I'll want to have with me during a trip gets copied and pasted onto this one document. On it I can list a variety of train schedules, hotel contact information and sightseeing information. I can freely combine bits of information gleaned from many different sources so that, for example, all of the bits of information about a particular castle are together in one subsection of my text document. When I'm done gathering all my information I can eliminate any duplication of information and reduce the size of the text font on the document before printing it out. That way I wind up with just a few sheets of paper that are tightly packed with relevant information. I can even print on both sides of each sheet of paper to further reduce the total number of pages. I can organize the text document anyway I like, with hotel confirmation emails all on one sheet, or all train schedules on a single sheet, or travel phrases all together or, if I've accumulated lots of details about historical sites to be visited, I can create separate printouts for each city or country. That way, as I visit each locale, I only need to carry that one page of information around with me during my stay there - one piece of paper that can be folded up and carried in my pocket for easy consulation or to supplement a travel brochure that I picked up locally. From Internet I can also print out a map for each town on my route, so that I'll be able to find my way from a train station to a prebooked lodging even if I can't immediately get my hands on a more detailed local map when I first arrive in a new town.It is possible to have with you all the travel information and transportation schedules that you'll need during your trip, yet not let it add to the burden that you must carry around as you travel from place to place. A handful of condensed printouts in lieu of a big fat guidebook is one more means of traveling well prepared even though you're traveling light. You can have your cake and eat it, too, so Bon Appetit !

Radisson Aruba Resort And Casino: Review of a Trip

A traveler reviews her stay at Radisson Aruba, gives her impression on the hotel service, island attraction and gives some useful tips to make the most of an Aruba vacation

My husband and I loved this island and agreed that the Radisson Aruba was a terrific place to stay. The staff was very friendly and the grounds are beautiful! The room was a little smaller than I expected but it was very clean and comfortable and nic
ly decorated. The Island itself is very expensive, and although Aruba has its own currency, everything is charged in American dollars in and outside the hotel. Don't bother with hotel transfers, as cabs a readily available outside the airport for cheaper then the hotel shuttle service. If you want to lounge on the beach under a palapa you either have to get one before 7am or after 4 pm, but the beach staff will help you find a comfortable spot if you desire a shaded area and have missed out on the palapa. (Sunsets are gorgeous!)We walked the beach and found that the Radisson had the best thing going!

Everything was great, especially the service. The two pools were very nice and the beach was simply beautiful. The food was excellent at the Gilligan's however at the more expensive restaurant, "Sunset Grille"; the food was just above average, although the service was great. Food is generally very expensive, especially at the hotels. The hotel room was very nice, however the bathroom was a bit small and the shower and tub was too small. The ceiling in the bathroom shower/tub was too low. Generally, we had a very good experience at this hotel.

Although the hotel restaurants are great, they are pricey. If you desire to save money, especially on breakfast or lunch, there are a strip of restaurants across the street (walking distance). Try SALT and Peppers!!! Great inexpensive place with a very friendly staff and good food! We waited until our 3rd day and wished we had discovered this place right away!

Make sure you go downtown to the store and purchase drinks to put into a refrigerator that you can request from the front desk. Drinks can be expensive, 1 can of Coke is $1 and fountain drinks are $3. Also fountain drinks are not free refills in any restaurant. Another tip take the local bus into town it is only $2 round trip and comes every hour.

Rent a car to see the island. Worth the money if you make reservation over internet before trip. Amigo had best prices. Don't go all inclusive if you like variety of foods, but expect to pay average of $40/person per meal. Arubians speak 4 languages (expect friendly treatment); if they speak 2 they are foreigners working on the island (we found their treatment less than nice). Don't miss The Flying Fishbone restaurant if you value dining experience but don't mind prices (snapper was awesome!).

What Are The Advantages Of Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance is usually the last thing on people's mind when they are booking a trip, but can turn out to be the most important thing to have when you are in a crisis situation. Here are some advantages of booking travel insurance:

1. Medical Care: The most obvious advantage is that if you fall sick on your trip, you will be covered for any medical care you need. Make sure you understand the limitations in your policy, as some have upper limits for the amount they will pay.

2. Medical Transport: Most insurance policies
ill pay for you to be transported to a medical establishment, such as by road or air ambulance.

3. Repatriation: Insurance will also pay for the cost to be returned to your home country after your medical treatment, along with a medical professional. This also covers the transport of your remains if you die while abroad.

4. Medical Evacuation: In the event of you being extremely sick and there not being a good hospital where you are, you will be evacuated to the nearest good hospital for treatment, even if this means taking you to another country.

5. Hospital Incidentals: This covers incidental costs while you are a patient in a hospital. This is only given after a minimum length of stay and also has an upper limit on the amount you can claim.

6. Cancellation or trip interruption: This covers any costs of you having to change the duration of your trip, such as flight changes etc. This includes a death in the family, or something happening to your home, such as fire.

7. Missed Flights: This covers all added costs if you miss your flight back home. This will help you get the first possible flight back, as well as cover any extra costs of changing flights or hotel stays.

8. Personal Liability: This gives you cover in case you hurt a third party or damage any property.

9. Legal Expenses: There is usually some sort of cover provided if you have to get involved in litigation while on your visit.

10. Personal Accident: This means that if you get hurt or die during your trip, you will be given some amount of money.

11. Personal Baggage: This covers your belongings while on the trip. If you lose a bag, a laptop or any other belongings, you can claim compensation for it. This is usually accompanied with information on the maximum amounts you can claim, for instance on jewellery.

All of these are advantages of carrying travel insurance, however, the covers given to you under different policies vary, and so make sure you read the fine print before you sign any documents or pay for your cover. Depending on where you are going, and how long you are going for, you will be required to pay different amounts. So, it may be more expensive to buy travel insurance for a dangerous country, as compared to a country with low crime rate.

Vacation Clubs Can Give You an Affordable Vacation

In this article we will examine the workings and mechanics of a vacation club.  Many people do not know the true benefits of belonging to such a club, and thus miss out on many wonderful experiences as a result.

Not all vacation clubs will offer the same type of packages.  Honestly, some are not very attractive to the potential member at all.  There are too many restrictions and too few options.  Although they may have some affordable vacations, the selections can be very limited.  For these reasons, many peop
e have become dissatisfied.

Unfortunately the lesser quality vacation clubs have made those that do offer terrific programs go unnoticed.  This is a sad story for the average person who would truly enjoy an affordable vacation!

Most quality vacation clubs will offer their members programs that have the following types of benefits:

- Prime Time weeks at desirable locations
- Vacation Properties that carry 3, 4, or 5 star ratings
- Immediate Confirmations
- Future Bookings up to one year or short notice bookings of 3 days notice
- Affordable Accommodations

The vacation clubs that are of the highest quality will offer in addition to the above, specialty holidays, mini-vacations, theme-related holidays, cruises, online bookings at hotels or short-stay locations and resorts and even the best deals on flights.

One nice thing about these higher quality vacation clubs is how they do the research to determine what types of vacations their members like best.  From there, they take the necessary steps to put together vacation plans that will align to those most popular choices without breaking the budget!

One such example is Aruba.  If ever you've been to Aruba, you know that it is one of the most wonderful vacation places in the world!  The waters are so clear, and the skies so blue no matter what time of year you go.  If you are from a cold winter environment, there is nothing more wonderful than a week in Aruba in February!

Aruba doesn't only offer spectacular beaches! There's the nightclubs and casinos and incredible shopping!

December is a terrific time in Aruba as well.  In fact, you have not truly experienced fireworks unless you have been to Aruba on New Year's Eve!  There is a reason it is called the "Happy Island" by so many!  You would probably assume that your hotel would cost you well over a thousand dollars, and in so many other vacations clubs, you would be right.  But not all vacation clubs are that high priced!

One of the truly  great things about the higher quality vacation clubs is that you can also count on saving a lot of your precious time and energy in trying to plan your vacation.  You won't have to be searching endlessly trying to find the right price for you and your family.  The vacation club is there for you and takes so many of those nightmarish planning activities away.

Start living life again.  Do yourself a big favor and find the kind of vacation club that really is reputable and making a difference in the quality of fun you always dreamed of!
